Phone Call activities in Outlook in CRM 4.0

One of the biggest complaints around activities in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 are that only Appointments, Tasks and Service Activities sync with Outlook Appointment or Tasks.

Since there was no equivilent activity in Outlook, CRM couldn't push the other activities into Outlook. That's all changed in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0. The CRM developers finally decided to forget about waiting for Outlook to comply with CRM and decided to push things into Outlook activities.
So Phone Call activities will sync to Outlook Tasks in Microsoft Dynamics CRM 4.0!

  • Update WordMailMerge for Microsoft CRM 3.0

The new version 2.64 of WordMailMerge for MS CRM 3.0 has some great new features in it.
Here is a list of new features:

Improved SharePoint Integration: The possibility to configure a CRM attribute for the SharePoint folder name (e.g. "Fullname" of a contact). This offers the possibility to navigate to a folder without using CRM. Another new functionality of this improvement is that you can define subfolders for your templates. This gives you the possibility to save all your quotes in a subfolder of the account.

FileExplorer Integration: All functionalities you now have via the SharePoint Integration are now also available for the FileExplorer Integration. This means you can define specific folders in which WordMailMerge will store the created documents and in Microsoft Dynamics CRM you have the possibility to see the files in the account, contact,.., custom entity form.
Because we integrate the FileExplorer with your Microsoft CRM you are able to organize and save your important documents and get direct access to them inside your Microsoft CRM. You are now able to Drag&Drop files directly to a contact, account,.. We support all customizable entities.

The FileExplorer & Sharepoint Integration works for all files:  This integration not only works for documents generated with WordMailMerge. You can Drag&Drop any file to a customizable entity ( Account,Contact,.., custom entity).

Improved Email creation: Improved GUI and the usability of sending Emails via WordMailMerge.(usability of  "Integrated Windows Authentication" for sending Emails, save email account informations,..).

Integrating CRM 4.0 Contacts with Facebook

CRM stores information about your contacts. Facebook also stores information about contacts. By merging the two entities together you can view Facebook profiles from within a CRM entity page! When we are done, our contact entity page will be able to do the following:

    clip_image002

There are 2 main tasks here. The first is customizing CRM so that the contact entity can display a Facebook profile. The second is to write a web page that will redirect requests to the proper Facebook page.

    I. Customize CRM

Step 1: Add an attribute to the contact entity that will store the Facebook User Id as a string. By storing this attribute in CRM, load times of Facebook profiles are greatly increased.

    1. Navigate to Settings -> Customization -> Customize Entities.

    2. Open up the contact entity.

    3. Click “Attributes” and then click New

    4. Fill out the DisplayName and the Name and select a type of nvarchar. All the defaults are fine. Click “Save and Close”.

SDK Support for Duplicate Detection in Titan Part II & III

Once the Microsoft Dynamics CRM system has been configured with the required duplicate detection settings and the duplicate detection rules, we can start detecting duplicates. Let us go through a sequence of steps to see how run-time duplicate detection can be made to work.

    1. Using run-time duplicate detection.

So, we are all set for our run-time duplicate detection. Now, we need to detect duplicates during create/update of records in Microsoft Dynamics CRM.

Titan introduces a notion of Optional Parameters that can be used to pass optional information to each of the SDK Methods. The run-time duplicate detection feature also makes use of an optional parameter. Let us see how.

E-mail preview pane for Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0

I found this on the blog of the Microsoft CRM User. Very nice...

A really nice e-mail preview facility, that appears in all relevant entities. A new link on the left in "my workplace" or any entity links to a history of relevant e-mails, with a preview pane below. Furthermore, attachments are indicated in the preview pane, and you can open them from there with just one click!

Nice CRM 4.0 Plugin Example: "Logger"

A plugin example by Jonas Deibe: a simple logger. He has created a new entity called "logger" with some basic field attributes. He has also associated N-1 to systemusers table for keeping track of data been "logged" by the current user. The logic to fill this entity/table is inside the plugin assembly and he has attached the Visual Studio project to play around with.

SDK Support for Duplicate Detection in Titan

Titan is bringing a cool new feature to deal with all the duplicate, unwanted data in your system. Thanks to this much awaited feature, you can now setup duplicate detection rules, and you can use the online duplicate detection for stopping those ever so painful, potentially duplicate records from entering into the system.

And if that’s not enough, you can also run the powerful system wide duplicate detection for keeping the system cleaner and garbage-free, more than it ever was! What more can one ask for?

But this is not the only thing duplicate detection has to offer. Underneath a strong Out-Of-Box (OOB) support for duplicate detection, lies an extremely powerful SDK support. In other words, not only can you do all what is there OOB but can make use of this comprehensive SDK to build features requiring duplicate detection capability.

Microsoft Dynamics CRM VPC - August 2007 Edition August fix

There are two possible solutions to fix the VPC.

The first solution is to remove the host header on the Microsoft CRM website and change port 80 to 5555 within IIS. After this open regedit and do a find and replace in the registry on http://crm and replace it with http://ds-srv-01:5555. Go to start/run and type in IISRESET. After that you should access Microsoft Dynamics crm via http://ds-srv-01:5555.

The second solution is explained here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/896861
The description of this KB is: "When you use the fully qualified domain name (FQDN) or a custom host header to browse a local Web site that is hosted on a computer that is running Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) 5.1 or IIS 6, you may receive an error message that resembles the following: HTTP 401.1 - Unauthorized: Logon Failed"This issue occurs when the Web site uses Integrated Authentication and has a name that is mapped to the local loopback address.

After applying either one the fixes make sure you save the changes to the image.
